Rapid Progress for Walnuts Leisure Centre Transformation in Bromley

The multi-million-pound redevelopment of Walnuts Leisure Centre is moving forward at a fast pace, with the swimming pool now drained as part of the ongoing demolition work to prepare for a complete refurbishment.

Max Associates, in partnership with Alliance Leisure, carried out an initial feasibility study to provide the appropriate evidence to help inform the ideal facility mix and developed revenue business plans to support the investment proposals. This provided the Council with the necessary evidence for consideration and established the financial foundation to support the overall affordability calculations to progress the project to the next stage

This highly anticipated upgrade, led by Bromley Council in partnership with Alliance Leisure, will introduce a variety of improvements based on feedback from the local community. These include an upgraded gym, redesigned changing rooms with new showers and lockers, and a competition-length swimming pool. The new pool will cater to both residents and local swimming clubs, further cementing Bromley’s position as a central hub for regional sports.

Additionally, a new exercise studio will be built, featuring power-assisted equipment to accommodate individuals with mobility challenges or those in need of rehabilitation. The centre will also undergo essential repairs, and a modern heating system will be installed to improve efficiency and lower costs. A new café will offer refreshments and a space for socialising.

The revamped leisure centre is set to reopen next year, following its temporary closure in January for refurbishment.

Kirsty Winders, Director of Max Associates, said: “It’s great to see projects coming to life after completing the initial feasibility work, we look forward to seeing the positive impact the investment has for the residents of Bromley.”
