Max Associates Appointed to Shape the Future of Sport and Leisure in Harlow and Gilston Garden Town

We are delighted to announce that Max Associates has been appointed by Harlow Council to lead the development of a Built Facility Strategy, Outdoor Sports Strategy and high-level Feasibility Study to help shape the future of sports and physical activity provision across Harlow and the wider Gilston Garden Town.

This important commission will provide a robust evidence base to inform the need for current and future ‘sports’ facilities, ensuring that provision aligns with planned housing and population growth across the area.

We are pleased to be working in partnership with FMG Consulting Ltd, who are delivering the Outdoor Sports Strategy, and Saunders Boston Architects, who are supporting the high-level Feasibility Study alongside Max Associates. Together, the team brings extensive expertise in strategic planning, sports facility development and leisure-led regeneration.

Work is now underway, following Sport England guidance. Consultation with National Governing Bodies has commenced, alongside engagement with key stakeholders, local sports clubs and education providers. This collaborative approach will ensure the strategies are grounded in local insight while reflecting national policy and best practice.

Running in parallel with the Built Facility Strategy, the Feasibility Study will explore the most suitable sites for the potential development of two new leisure centres. The study will also assess which complementary facilities and activities could form part of an integrated facility mix, designed to maximise participation, encourage movement and support the health and wellbeing of the community.

Max Associates is working closely with the Council and neighbouring authorities to fully understand projected housing and population growth, ensuring that future provision is appropriately planned, sustainable and fit for purpose.

We are excited to be supporting Harlow Council at such a pivotal time and look forward to help shape a long-term vision for high-quality, accessible sports and leisure facilities that meet the needs of existing and future communities.
